Here are a few items that have brightened my week: hope they’ll do the same for you.
The lovely and talented Rebecca Rosenblum has a new website, thanks to Create Me This and a new chapbook, “Road Trips,” out from Frog’s Hollow Press.
Matt Novak, creator of the blog Paleo-Future: a look into the future that never was (oh, why has it taken me so long to find out about this?) is fundraising to create a magazine of the same name:
Paleo-Future Magazine will look at past visions of the future including: jetpacks, flying cars, meal pills, end of the world prophecies, robots, gender roles, architecture, fashion, videophones, monorails, space travel and much more!
Oil Spill Where You Live. This doesn’t sound very ‘week-brightening’ off the bat but hear me out: HiLoBrow is looking for 250 word stories imagining (you guessed it) the consequences of an oil spill where you live. The winner gets published online, and mentioned in their Radium-Age podcast, and $100 donated on his or her behalf to the Centre for Biological Diversity, an organization which seeks to prevent disasters like the one playing out in the Gulf. Oh, and a HiLoBrow tshirt! The deadline is June 5.
